| This site has now been sold to Republic Technologies since our involvement. This was perhpas our most difficult job, mainly because the politics of a disintegrating Steel Plant Organization became very difficult, if not impossible to work with. Originally our scope was the evaluation and optimization of all of the Reheat Furnaces. Because of the various complications, we were able to evaluate all of the Furnaces but only one was Optimized - with spectacular results insofar as Fuel Savings and improvement in Control was concerned. We also were asked to evaluate the Ladle Heaters located in the BOP Shop in order to improve their ability to properly dry and cure freshly relined Ladles before they were placed back in service. We designed and installed a fairly unique Controls solution for selectable On Ratio/Fuel Only control of the Burner Firing Rates and supervised the PLC Programming. There were tremendous coordination problems, particularly with the programming, but the project overall accomplished the basic goals and provided a means of properly curing the Ladle Shells.
